What Happens at a Green Pet Burial? A Gentle, Step-By-Step Guide

Macy Graybeal • March 11, 2026

Grief is already hard enough. Not knowing what to expect can make it even heavier. At Green Burial Pet Sanctuary, we walk alongside families every step of the way with calm guidance and compassionate care.

Here is what a burial experience looks like.

Step 1: Compassionate Arrival

Your pet is received with respect, care, and reverence. Every movement, every action, is done with intention.

Step 2: Choose Your Burial Type

Families choose between:

✔ Full-Body Green Burial

✔ Burial of Cremated Remains

We help you find the option that feels right emotionally, environmentally, and personally.

Step 3: Selecting a Resting Space

You’ll choose a location within the sanctuary’s natural landscape — meadow, shade, tree-dappled areas — each intentionally chosen and cared for.

Step 4: Ceremony (Optional)

Some families speak.

Some pray.

Some sit in silence.

Some laugh at favorite pet memories through tears.

There is no “right way.” There is only your way.

Step 5: Natural Interment

Full-body burial uses biodegradable wrappings or caskets.

Cremated remains are placed into the earth with reverence.

Both are completed in alignment with environmental and ethical standards.

Step 6: Ongoing Remembrance

Families are welcome to visit. Walk the grounds. Bring flowers. Sit. Breathe.

Healing doesn’t end with burial and neither does our support.
